WORKING WITH MODELS
If you are reading this, chances are you are a fellow photographer! I want to start by saying, you are doing better than you think you are, but there's always room for improvement. That's why you are here!
First things first, remember that whoever is on the other side of the camera is human. Chances are they have doubts, flaws, and insecurities. Reassure them! Communication and Comfort during your shoots are going to be your best friend. No one wants someone to be hiding behind the camera as they are getting their photo taken, HAVE FUN with it!
Energy! Your energy is going to affect how these photos turn out. If you are stressing over a specific photo you found on Pinterest that you want to nail, rather than focusing on keeping a genuine smile on your model, things might get awkward. Awkward energy in a photoshoot is the last thing you want to shoot toward.
Character over conventional beauty! Society has a way of trying to mold us into something we aren't. Don't do that to your models! If your model is presenting confidence work with it. When your model isn't comfortable with a particular pose do not force them. You want to capture what makes your model unique. Incomparable photos are often captured when you give a little direction, while allowing the model to be creative in their own way.
